The exterior of the building exhibits a unique blend of architectural elements. The general stylistic feeling is characteristic of the formalized Italianate traits seen in the Renaissance Revival style. However, later alterations and additions to the building may be responsible for the Queen Anne stylistic traits that appear mostly on the eastern side of the building. Although subsequent alterations have modified the original appearance, the house still retains many of its original exterior traits.


The main house is three stories, masonry construction with true stucco exterior finish. Facing south it overlooks the street on the corner of East Gaston and Habersham Streets. The front facade is dominated by twin full-height bays which flank the centrally located main entrance. A concrete flight of stairs accesses the main entrance through a recessed rounded archway on the parlor level. A canvas awning shelters this archway. There are nine one-bedroom one-bath apartments, each unique in size and layout. The three garden level apartments have front entries from the street. The three parlor level and three third level apartments have entries off the central foyer. All apartments have back entries also that lead to a shared courtyard. Some apartments have balconies and porches.


The two-story L shaped Carriage House is located at the northeastern rear corner of the lot overlooking both the lane and Habersham Street. The L-extension of this building brings it almost in contact with the main building. The carriage house has three rental apartments over six private garage/storage spaces. A low brick wall with wooden gate encloses a private brick courtyard between the main house and the carriage house.
