Imagine you possess the resources of Henry and Clara Ford…Where would you choose to live? In 1923, the Fords purchased 70,000 acres in Richmond Hill, just south of Savannah, Georgia, and built a sporting sanctuary alongside the Ogeechee River. Here they enjoyed horseback riding, bird watching and boating. An avid yachtsman, Ford built a marina for his cabin cruiser.

 

That same dream is now possible for you. Ford’s estate is now a 400-home private sporting community known as The Ford Plantation. At the site of Ford’s original marina, Developer Richard Grayson is building just eight Marina Cottages that overlook the Ogeechee. “We worked to connect these homes with the water,” says Grayson. “We did it in three ways: evocative design, careful orientation and by going vertical – culminating in the tower rooms.”

           

Providing more than 2,700 square feet of custom-built conditioned space, these three-bedroom, three-and-one-half bath homes offer numerous amenities and handcrafted elements. A wide range of interior and exterior finishes, as well as a host of upgradeable features, will enable each owner to create his or her own personal, signature cottage.

 

More than 1,100 additional square feet of porches and decks surround each Cottage on its three levels. Expansive front porches on the first and second floors offer wonderful elevated views of the surrounding marshes, lake and river, while a large screened porch, with full masonry fireplace, connects the Great Room, Kitchen and Master Suite, providing another unique area for dining, entertaining or simply relaxing.

 

Twelve-foot ceilings, including a dramatic vaulted and beamed ceiling in the kitchen, create a marvelous spaciousness on the first floor, while the second and third floors have eleven-and ten-foot ceilings.

 

The gourmet kitchen features custom built cabinetry, with granite counters and offers buyers a wide range of choices in top-of-the-line, stainless steel appliances. Hardwood floors and standing steam metal roofs are standard, as are dual fireplaces located in the Great Room and screened porch. All baths are fully tiled.

 

The Master Suite features a large walk-in closet and the master bath offers dual granite or marble vanities, whirlpool, and an optional tile and masonry indoor/outdoor shower.

 

A separate carport, enclosed garage, or enclosed garage with upstairs one-bedroom apartment can be added in the rear yard of each cottage.

 

The Towers

 

The Cottages have been designed to capture and maximize the waterfront experience by building upon a design concept first popularized at Seaside Florida...The Towers, which are the signature architectural features of the Cottages.

 

Rising more than three stories above the river and lake that surround Silk Hope Harbor, the Towers will afford breathtaking views of the Ogeechee River, Lake Clara and the Marina.

 

Designed with maximum flexibility and utility in mind, the 450 square-foot Towers can be configured in up to five different styles, to accommodate the personal preferences and lifestyles of each Cottage owner.

 

Custom-fabricated window walls can be opened completely, on up to three sides of each Tower, to create a unique open-air environment, or can remain closed to provide more intimate space that can be configured as an office, studio, game room, media center, or personal hideaway.

 

A Widow’s Walk is an optional replacement to the standard roof configuration of the Coastal and Low Country Models, which can further enhance the vistas experienced from the top of these Cottages.

 

The Cottages Deck Boat

 

Many of those who will be purchasing home at The Marina intend to make boating and fishing an integral part of their Ford Plantation experience. Consequently, as an additional amenity, Marina Cottages LLC has arranged for the complimentary usage of a Hurricane Deck Boat, which will be available for the exclusive use of the eight Marina Cottages owners. This watercraft will be docked at the Marina slips immediately to Captains Walk.
